Can’t Stop Spinning: Paramore & Chris Wollard and the Ship Thieves

The year of 2013 is off to a good start for rock and roll hooks! Two songs that will make you hit “play” over and over (and over) again are from Paramore and Chris Wollard and the Ship Thieves.

Paramore is releasing their fourth (and self-titled) album on April 9th and the first single, “Now,” hit the Interweb at midnight last night. I have been listening to it on repeat for 2 hours, 46 minutes and counting because Hayley’s “now ow ow ow” sticks to you better than a game of velcro catch and the bass line on the bridge of the song will make you rethink bridges in general and while we’re at it, what does life mean anyways?

Chris Wollard and the Ship Thieves’ new song, “ZYZOUTT,” is available as a free download over on the Rolling Stone website. If Chris looks or sounds familiar, it means you have good taste because you know about Hot Water Music. The Ship Thieves are a side project of his. (Not to be confused with his other, other side project The Draft.) This song has only been out for a day but after you give it a listen, it’s like you’re friends forever thanks to its good old Americana vibe which makes you want to put on your oldest denim jacket and hit the highway on a motorcyle with a bandana in your back pocket. This song is all distorted guitars and harmonies and if you hate either of those, it’s okay because our friendship may not have worked out anyways… No idea why the band chose this as a song title, but I forgive them because now it’s part of my audio DNA.
