Tegan and Sara is Generous
In the past couple of weeks, Tegan and Sara have made fans go through an obstacle course of different sites to hear tracks off their upcoming album Heartthrob out next week. We’re all creatures of habit so going to places outside our comfort zone is what you do when you want to hear your favorite Canadian duo sing new sounds. The obstacle course included running through tires and trying not to trip at Glamour (“I Was a Fool”), getting across a balance beam in uncomfortable gym shorts at Vanity Fair (“Shock to Your System”), and scaling a wall while the rest of your gym class watched on at Stereogum (“Now I’m All Messed Up”). Good news is that we survived the barrage of anticipation, links, and all the pop-up ads to bring you all five songs in one link below. Don’t say that your friends at Brunchcore never did anything for you.
The Postal Service is Not Generous
We had 25 Questions About the Postal Service Reunion Announcement on Monday, and by press time two days later, Ben Gibbard only continues to contradict himself and confuse us. Disagree? Well, we have the facts and we’re voting YES. (See what I did there?)
Ben told Spinner, “”There are no plans to make a second record,” and “I can’t say that enough.” Fine, we get it and we won’t beg. (Unless that will help? Will it, Ben? Write us back!) So The Only Record The Postal Service Could Ever Make, Give Up, hit Platinum status not too long ago and is Sub Pop’s highest grossing record next to Nirvana’s Bleach. Included in Heartbreaker Ben’s plans to never make a second record is reissuing the previous one that will include two unheard songs (gasp!), 15 other songs you may have heard and could easily find on YouTube, and then a couple covers for good measure.
Aside from rumors of The Postal Service playing Coachella, they were announced as part of the Primavera Festival in Barcelona, Spain (with about everyone in the favorites section of your Spotify playlist) which leads us to believe that Heartbreaker Ben is bored and wants to travel and hang out with other famous musicians without carrying his guitar. Fair warning: I’ll stay fangry until there’s a U.S. East coast date.
A Nation Divided on the Weather
Guess what, you guys? It’s cold outside and my unscientific calculation is that 80% of all social feeds had someone talking about it. I don’t live in New York but know it was 19 degrees there and something other horrible cold degrees in Chicago. People from the South of the Mason-Dixon line taunted their Northern brethren with Instagram photos of clear skies and palm trees. Unable to react, those in the North plotted revenge for when they can have urban adventures without the threat of melting come July.
I sent out a tweet to see what else I would get back and everyone’s favorite rock and roll lady, Hayley Williams of Paramore chimed in! Not only is Hayley bursting with talent and all things nice, she’s got her emoji game ON POINT.
